Study Number 5- Dark Office

A long time coming, but I have a good excuse, moving cross the country and whatnot.

This is the 5th study and a labor of love that started months ago. I wanted to somehow visually and sonically elucidate my love of nighttime office architecture, old archaic mainframe machines, and electronic soundscapes. That led me to making dozens and dozens of new clips and create an entirely new sort of working esthetic that somehow left the actual creation of the study as secondary. I have been swimming in old electronics advertisements, abandoned office footage, and various other vintage admin ephemera for months. This is the result. Download the study in its entirety (with cd artwork, track listings, and five minute visual loop and instructions) here. Comments are welcome.

  1. Sitting here listening and watching the loop I find this very soothing and hypnotic. Not sure that was the intended effect but that's the effect it is having. I really like this and it reminds me of this late nite radio program I listen to sometimes on the way back from DJ gigs when I am a little burned out from the loud RnR and just want to get mesmerized on the road. http://www.starsend.org/ I bet they'd play this if you sent it in and it does deserve more listens. I've only been in my office once after dark and I confess I found it kind of creepy. A lot of the computers were still on and there was this green glow in the darkness as I entered. I felt as though I'd invaded their private chat and as though they wanted me gone. Accept this pleaseas an apology.

  2. this is a fantastic comment. that eerie feeling you spoke of is PRECISELY the vibe i was trying to recreate. there is something ghostly about an office after dark. hence, "dark office". my secret fetishistic dream is to be able to wander through an abandoned office tower at night with reams of old office ephemera, old typewriters, just stalk from room to room with a flashlight.

perhaps i will try to send the mix on. thanks for the tip.
it really means alot to know that someone is listening. it inspires one to do more. thank you for paying attention to my little corner of the interwebs.

  6. Ack! I am a little late with this so forgive me that! It's Tom. Not one to keep a mask on too long. I checked it out. I dug it. I am sorry if I didn't get back to this sooner. It's been hectic of late. But this was really good and keep at it. I meant what I said above. I actually like the more repetitive parts better than the nods at psychedelia for what it's worth.
